cylinder shoots down and back up again

we have a solenoid operating a pneumatic spring return cylinder, cylinder retracts under pressure and spring returns when pressure is off……the problem we have is a couple of seconds after the spring advances the stop when it should, the cylinder shoots down and back up again when it should not……any ideas as to why this would happen

Was it working before then started acting this way?

It sounds like another signal is being sent to the control valve. Is the control valve solenoid operated or air pilot?
